Niantic Spatial Scaniverse Frequently Asked Questions
If you're new to Scaniverse, start with our Getting Started guide.

1. Who is this for?
Built for teams creating VPS-powered products and/or producing reconstructions at scale, including teams that need to:
-
Work alongside NSDK 4.0 to build VPS experiences.
-
Generate 3D assets (VPS maps, meshes and Gaussian Splats) of large areas in the cloud.
-
Collaborate with multiple team members by combining scans into a single output.
-
Share 3D assets of sites with other team members.
2. How does it work?
1. Capture a site
Team members use the Scaniverse mobile app to scan a site. Multiple people can capture different parts of the same site.
Scaniverse also supports 360° camera workflows, allowing teams to capture larger and more complex environments more efficiently.
2. Upload scans and generate outputs in the cloud
Scans are uploaded, then processed in the cloud to generate 3D assets of the site. Multiple team members’ scans can be combined before generation to create a more complete result.
3. Manage everything on the web
Use the web experience to manage team members, organize sites and scans, view generated 3D assets, and retrieve what you need to connect to the NSDK.
4. Build VPS experiences with NSDK 4.0
Use NSDK 4.0 to build VPS experiences that localize to the VPS maps you’ve created of your sites.
3. What platforms are supported?
-
iOS: Supported. We recommend iPhone 13 or newer. Devices with LiDAR provide the best results.
-
Web: Supported.
-
Android: Supported. Performance and feature availability may vary depending on hardware capabilities.
4. Is there a free plan?
Yes. All new users start on the Free Plan, which gives you access to core platform features and a monthly credit allowance so you can explore cloud-based services before committing to a paid plan.
The Free Plan includes:
-
20,000 credits per month (~10 minutes of mobile scan activation, ~1,500 VPS queries)
-
Up to 5 users in your organization
-
Gaussian splats, meshes, and VPS Maps
If you need more capacity, you can upgrade to the Plus ($20/mo) or Pro ($50/mo) plan directly from your Scaniverse Web dashboard. For larger teams or higher usage, contact sales to learn about our Enterprise plan. Visit our pricing page to learn more.
5. How do I get started?
To get started, create an account and follow the step-by-step instructions in our Getting Started guide, which walks you through capturing a site, generating outputs, and connecting to NSDK 4.0.
6. I'm already using Scaniverse. How do I access the new experience?
If you're currently using Scaniverse Classic, you can switch to Scaniverse directly from the app.
Go to Library → Settings and select Discover the New Scaniverse.
7. What is the difference between Scaniverse Classic and Scaniverse?
Scaniverse Classic is designed for individual use, and best for reconstruction of objects and small environments and personal projects where you want to capture and view results quickly.
The new Scaniverse experience is for organizations that need large area scanning, VPS-enabled locations, and team workflows for building production spatial applications. With Scaniverse, you can reconstruct bigger areas at higher quality using Niantic Spatial's latest powerful algorithms that run in the cloud to give you the best reconstruction, VPS maps, and meshes possible.
The features you know from Scaniverse Classic are coming to the new Scaniverse experience soon.
8. What is the difference between Scaniverse Classic and Scaniverse?
Scaniverse Classic is designed for individual use, and best for reconstruction of objects and small environments and personal projects where you want to capture and view results quickly.
9. Can I use my Scaniverse Classic account with the new Scaniverse experience?
No. You will need to create a new account to access the new Scaniverse features.
10. Which browsers are supported for 360° uploads on Scaniverse Web?
Scaniverse Web supports 360° uploads in all major desktop browsers. For best results, we recommend using the latest version of your browser.
11. Can I upload 360° drone footage (.insv files) directly?
Scaniverse Web supports raw .insv files natively, but only from the Insta360 X5 and X4 cameras. Footage from 360° drones, including the Antigravity A1, DJI Avata 360, and similar, must be stitched into an equirectangular .mp4 file before uploading.
To prepare drone footage:
-
Use your camera's desktop software to stitch the dual-lens files into a single
.mp4(H.264 or H.265, with direction lock enabled). -
Upload the stitched
.mp4to Scaniverse Web.
